Yep. If we all drove eco-vehicles like the "Dart Lite" then I think they would be very happy indeed in terms of volume shipped and who is addicted.

I applaud every attempt to increase FE, but aren't these type of vehicles weekend classic motors these days ? For everyday maybe a Civic or whatever gets decent FE in the US would be better. Maybe more boring, but better.

That tapped the "Dart Lite" specification has my "car geek" gland pulsing... I like historic stuff.

EDIT - No really I do. I have an MGBGT in my garage needing to be converted to an EV. The dart (above) is pretty and historically needs to be kept alive, but it is a real eco-mobile ?

Dart Lite

I run my 79 B as a daily driver .. if you are about net global saving fuel think how much fuel is saved by keeping a good machine running instead of buying a new one , how much energy/fuel is consumed in the production of a new machine, more than you will ever save by buying one i think. cast aside the throwaway ethic sold to you by industry that only has a 12 year life cycle on the machines. 36 MPG is not shabby for a big Coupé.
the brown paint looks good a shame you did not just buff it [ at least to me]
and put the cash for painting on engine parts and whatnot

the badge Lite interested me so i looked it up. saw yer string on the dodge form and cut the pic in did not read string.
rated at 36 getting 18 is awful somethings not right
carb or ignition or something needs more attention,

how do the plugs read , does it have a points type dizzy ? is the carb squared away , how is the cylinder compression?

likely the special part of the dizzy is the advance curve and after 35 years the springs are tired and stretched the vacuum advance is bad and its gummed up . that is unless you have overhauled it.

i know a guy that will rebuild that and put a custom curve on it any way you like, it will work better than new, costy but he does world class work , people ship ddizzy from OZ & the EU for him to overhaul.

when the dizzy is squared away , timing set at the proper advance , then the carb,,, i am curious about the *special * nature of the carburetor.

i run a special carb a SU HIF 44..

clean and adjust that carb and lean that baby out ,, not to lean or you will burn valves ..

if i had that machine i would have Fuzzy Dice hanging from the rearview and Hula Girls on the back shelf..

are those beauty rings on steel wheels ,, like they say in ANAHEIM, that girl would look Chaste with Full Moons . i have a set on the LA-Memphis run Rat now.. worth 4 % FE so said.

I agree on the recycle vs replace issue and will not be buying new ever again. But there are more economical vehicles to recycle.

As I said, the spec of the Dart lite is interesting from a "what the makers seem to be thinking" point of view.

Must get my GT working again.

I kinda figured that was what you meant, but I didn't want to jump to conclusions.

My daily transportation is a 97 Ram that is averaging 15mpg.
The Dart has the ability to get much better, with a multitude of tuning tricks and ideas.

So you are excited about my progress with the 360 in the Welsh cottage, but dismayed that I might move to a smaller vehicle, with a smaller engine, that gets better MPG? I might be able to hypermile within my commute to a 20mpg average in the truck. I might also be able to hypermile the Dart to 30 mpg, which would be a 100% improvment over the current ride. Does that by definition not make me an eco-modder?

There may be people that can accept a commute in the cars you reference, but I will wholeheartely admit I am not one of them. I am an enthusiast first, and environmentalist second. I make my living selling speed and performance parts, lift kits, and oversize wheels and tires. I do choose to be as efficient as possible in what I decide to drive, but I would go nuts in a commute in one of the "boring" cars you would prefer.

I am shooting for 30, as the 36 was probably a bit of a cooked up number, to appear good during and after the gas crunch. A true 30 MPG average, with my commute would be a big WIN.

A big portion of this project is getting it dialed in. The distributer has had cap and rotor changed, but I have not checked the advance weights and such, that is definately on the list.
The carb needs replaced. It functions, but was never as RIGHT as I wanted. I have another on the way.
I am going to get it in a sharp state of tune, and then work on getting the 4 speed overdrive installed. All aspects will be under scrutiny (carb, ignition, valvetrain, electric fan, air intake, etc) and I am even going to draw from some of my learnings here, as the front bumper to K member is begging for a black chloroplast belly pan.
