My o1 grand cherokee has been averaging 19 highway since I bought it last month. I changed the spark plugs and fixed some grounds and just got a 23 mpg fillip, 1/3 of it driving in a blizzard.

What do you mean by fixing grounds? What grounds did you have to fix? This sounds like some useful information. And what kind of spark plug did you put in?

I wanted to get Bosch platinums but my friend at the Parts Source refused to sell them to me, he said the NGK v-grove is the one Jeep calls for. I said I didn't care, he said it's fine but he will not sell me the ones I wanted. I bought the NGK v-groves.

Grounds are where the negative battery cables touch the body and the engine. dirty connections can throw the electrical sysem out of whack. my volt meter flactuated a lot while driving for no reason that I could discern and the odd time it cranked slow as if the battery was dead, I took both terminals off (really corroded) and cleaned them. THere are a few more i want to check but it's too cold and raining, my meter still flactuates down to 14.1 instead of a steady reading

A good quality digital meter (I prefer fluke) set to a low volt scale might help you find trouble spots while it is running, but I check with the vehicle off on the ground setting. anything over .1 ohms is looked at. not all that pass are perfect, especially large wires like the main terminals. There is probably a common electrical problem on the web, might offer more info

The most over looked electrical issue is the coolant, stick a meter into the antifreeze and the other to body ground. once the antifreeze starts going acidy it will get a voltage reading, I once saw a 2.5 V charge in the coolant system, it will mess up all your sensor because your engine that is supposed to be grounded is not a battery generating it's own electricity

actually, I have to check that on mine still

Keep in mind, the battery charging on these is temperature compensated. The colder the battery, the higher the voltage. If you drive for a while and the battery warms up, the voltage will go down a bit. I've seen mine show 13.7 on a 105* day, and 14.5 in 5* weather.

CJ sucks. at least as a daily vehicle.

88 and back Cherokee's rule. No chrysler crap :-)

The problem is there are some things that a more fuel efficient car SIMPLY CAN NOT DO.

Ever try 4 wheeling in a metro? 3 feet or mud? fording a river? yeah it don't work well.

"jeeps sux gas and screw up the enviroment"

sorry to burst your bubble but ALL gasoline powered cars suck gas and screw up the environment.

thats reality for you. My cherokee on E0 gets better FE than most people's cars do (24mpg)

if I can do anything to improve that WHY NOT.

will ti get anywhere near the 55+ my metro gets? heck no. try towing a boat or camper with a metro! or yanking someone out of the ditch in the snow OR not ending up IN same said ditch in the snow in a metro :-) (which I own 94xfi I might add)

the only way to NOT suck gas and screw the environment is to go EV but they refuse to let us do that yet and they are VERY effective at keeping the viable battery tech OUT of consumer hands.

Exactly. I drive a Jeep because I hate FWD cars, need to be able to tow / carry stuff at times, take it off road periodically, and need to be able to drive through deep snow in the winter. Unfortunately, at the moment, having more than 1 vehicle isn't practical, so I just eat the cost and use the Jeep as a DD. Once I have a place to put a 2nd car and the money to buy one, I fully intend to.

Paw!? Hey, Paw!... I'm still not quite sure... Is this troll poo I'm smellin'. I think so, as I want to mention aerohead's 36mpg T100, but if you think I should mention something about putting rainbows in our tank and eating moss we find in the back yard, I will.

Jeep mods, love em. Please, keep on keepin' on. My Cherokee was rusting apart faster than I could weld it back together( common problem around here). I would definately like to get another one as we often have double digit snowfalls and I live at the top of a 1200 ft "hill". I'm getting my "fix-Jeep fix" through you.
