Have you been keeping a daily log? I found that enormously helpful.

And as far as the 6-speed tranny. I have one, and I wish I had a 7th gear
Tell me about it! My current "bad" days are soooooo much better than what "good" ones used to be!

No, I do not keep a daily log. What are you keeping track of on yours?

My '12 is the same. Under 1250 is a no-no.

I keep track of the following:

1) Trip mileage
2) Distace travelled
3) Time of day
4) Weather info (from Weather Forecast & Reports - Long Range & Local | Wunderground | Weather Underground)
a) Temperature
b) Wind speed & direction
c) Humidity
d) Barometric pressure
5) Comments (route, traffic, mods -- driving & vehicle, stops, etc.)

I rented a six-gear Focus in Germany.

That driving log sounds boring! I just wish that I could remember at which speed I need to drive each section to hit a green light. Sometimes it seems ten miles an hour over the speed limit. Sometimes it seems ten under.

Sometimes I simply seem doomed.

I have a 2012 SE (Auto) and the best tank I have been able to get is 33.5 MPG. I am new to this forum but think that I can implement some of the hypermiling techniques and the number will increase.

So I am curious about the 2500 RPM. Is that the target for the highway and while in the city to get the most MPG?

Gasninja79 are you keeping your car under 65 on the highway? I know that a lot of our roads here in Texas have gotten their speed limits raised to 70-75mph and I know with my car anything over 65 starts to eat away at my mpg. Learning to hypermile even a modest amount will help your numbers. The 30% increase in fuel economy that is claimed with the techniques you will learn from this forum are very realistic. Before I adjusted my driving habits I was getting 22mpg in my elantra.

Sorry but at 70 mph you're not going to be doing anywhere near 2500 rpm. The gear ratios on the MTX-75 put you right at or over 3000 rpm with the 16" wheels and tires.

The Dual clutch automated manual with its 6th gear that's actually sufficiently taller than the 5 MT is turning over 2600 rpm at 70 and 2400 rpm at 65 MPH.

I replaced my old 1994 Geo Prizm with a 2012 Ford Focus SEL hatch with the DCT because of the better gear ratios as well as the fact that I needed a new/newer car as my old car was rusting away.

Yes, you are correct. On those very rare times that I drive at 70 mph my car is turning roughly 3000 rpm. However; when I am driving my normal 60-63 mph it is turning 2500 to just slightly above 2500 rpm.
