I have yet to use prefiltered water, but the filter is built and ready to go when the water injection system goes back in. The filter is just for water at my house, truck stop water is not going to be prefiltered or pretreated.

That'll be the real test, then, I guess. But typically, you shouldn't need to fill up anywhere else if your tank is big enough.

My diesel consumes between 3 to 5 gallons an hour just driving down the highway.
I take it on 4 to 28 hour long road trips occasionally. Need to refill on the longer ones.
