VW ID.4 Cross

Here is a look at the first MEB based electric vehicle that will come to the USA.

If the price and specs are anything like predicted this is likely the replacement for my Sportwagen TDI in 3-4 years.

The Golf-sized, bus-sized and dune buggy models all appeal more to me than an SUV.

And I'd be looking at aftermarket wheels that aren't [those].

But VW knows their markets.

One thing to consider on all the ev's is repair cost for the non power train accessories..

A Golf-EV for instance,, if the heater dies, your looking a 4500 dollar bill.

Check the pricing on failed dash and head units as well. all are a bit over the top for what amounts to a cheap android table .. LOL

I've had 4 VWs without an major issues.

I also do most of my own maintenance and would never use a dealer for repairs. For something I don't want to do myself (like timing belts) there are independent VW shops that charge 1/3 to 1/2 of what the dealer charges.

My friend that got the bill, said it was 2500 or some silly thing because you cant just buy the broken part ,, and its like another 15 hours labor because the unit is installed in the tub before anything else.. its worse than a Volvo heater..
And of course he had the bad luck to have it break about 1 month out of warranty and VW told him to pack sand.. Sounded like all the interior ahead of the B piller had to come out to do the job.. I didnt see it but I priced a few items that I thought "could" break, the head unit in my spark is about 1400 and there isn't a substitute that still works with all the engine stuff far as I have found..

Not bashing vw's that was just the most recent thing in my head,, ALL the ev's have key parts you open a artery to buy. And many of the different vendor only parts have to be matched to the car because of a bunch of goofy can integration. <shug> I dont get it..

I have a VW that body shops won't work on because it doesn't have enough digits in the VI[Number].

Maybe you wouldn't have too much problems to try some makeshift fix for an EV with modern gadgets

The July, 2020 MOTOR TREND had a tiny article on this SUV. They 'talk' of a ' Top-end' version, with close to 300-miles range. Estimated price is $ 35,000 US, however, they don't specify if this is a 'base' price, or high end price.
There is a base, single-motor. GTX version with two motors, AWD, and more performance. Top-end model has the near-300-miles. The ID4 is the size of Tiguan, but with more interior space.
A 2012 Tiguan SE could fetch $ 31,345.
2019 BOLT LT base is $ 36,620.
2019, high-end LEAF, base, $36,200.
2019 Kia NIRO EV EX Premier, $ 43,475.
2019 Tesla Model 3 Std range Plus, $ 40,690.
2019 Hyundai Kona EV, $ 46,630.
VW's Audi E-tron is getting upgrades for range efficiency, perhaps the ID4 will enjoy these technologies as well.
