Just wanted to say thanks guys!
I thought when I traded my Land Rover for a Festiva that I was about maxed out as to how much gas money you can save. I've been driving the Festiva almost two years now, averaging about 43 mpg and thinking I was getting great gas mileage . . . .until I came across this site in January!
My last tank I got almost 54 mpg, and there's no way I could have ever done that on my own! Both of my sons have also caught the bug and are spreading the word.
Thanks to all you guys that have come before me, showing me tricks to great mileage, I really appreciate the help!

Glad to be of service, and congrats on the additional savings. Fun game, eh?
Happy to hear there's interest in your younger generation too!

Just out of interest, what was the overall mpg gain from the LR to 54 mpg now ?
Picking a more fuel efficient vehicle is one of the easiest and most effective ecomods you can possibly make.

Funny how averaging the EPA highway rating seems like an accomplishment until you come here and find out what a car is really capable of.

The only mods I've done so far are the rear detached wing, full grill block, and the deletion of the a/c system. I think I'm about 6 bucks into the cost of mods. Thinking about a belly pan and maybe some rear skirts, that should put me up to about twenty bucks on the mods.
My 1998 Land Rover Disco AWD was getting right around 12 mpg, prompting the search for a more reasonable beater since it was costing me about 75 bucks a week in gas for that car alone. At this point I'm averaging a little over 40 mpg better than I was two years ago by driving the Festiva. I sold the LR for 1800 bucks, and the Festiva cost me a thousand, so I drove it free for the first year. I've been tracking the mileage on Fuelly for over 20,000 miles now, and I've documented every dime I put into it. It's been a life saver!
