A big thanks to everyone in this thread.
I've been thinking of selling my 99 monte carlo 3.1 (rated 26hwy) for a 1000 dollar geo metro. but I guess its more trouble than its worth..I mean sure the metro gets better mileage but I guess after grabbing a geo and sinking money to restore the vehicle, its a not as big a deal.
All things considered, I spose i'm doing well enough with my current wheels.

Just make sure to run the numbers. If you sell the the Monte Carlo for $2k (a total guess), and buy the Metro for $1000 you have $1000 to fix up the Metro. You could darn near restore the whole car for that price, haha. After that, you've halved your price of gas due to doublling your mileage. If you don't drive much then it isn't as big of a deal. But, if you're packing the miles on you could easily find yourself way ahead in a very short time. Sounds like it might be worth it to me.

A metro for $1k?
HA!
The junk yard I go to had a metro for sale the other day, they wanted over $2000 for it. $2k+ must be a good price because it sat out there for sale for less than 24hrs.

whats funny? i just went onto craigslist searched metro for a max price of $1500 and found lots of entries where the remaining money up to $2000 would fix the car enough to drive it

Used econoboxes on Craigslist are pretty cheap.

Only 2 k for that Monte? Is that accurate? I would hope you get more. If I was in that boat, I would sell the Monte and get it. If I end up shifting to a new job, I will definitely be buying a nice economy car. Nice, I mean, something I can do whatever I want with and not be criticized by my family and peers

W-bodies (monte carlo, lumina, impala, grand prix, regal, century) all suffer from a rather crappy resale value....
makes it rather cheap to acquire them, but any money you sink into them will not be returned if/when you sell it.

I did not research it, I was just surprised. I know the rounded years are a bit, lost.

Have you never considered a Diesel swap? Might gonna find a cheap Kubota V2203-DI to slap into it...
