At a car show some kid was bragging about his 7 mpg Chevelle. I said "You're proud of that?" and the look on his face showed that the concept of efficiency had never entered his head cavity before.

lol It's kinda funny you say that because even though my friends don't care much about MPG in their hot rods or trucks, they all started magically checking MPG at the pump after I started getting active on this forum and showing up to the shop with duct tape on my Saturn. They still don't care that much but at least it's in the back of their mind. 1 Friend always gets mad after his wife drives his truck and the average MPG on the dash shows a higher number than when he drives it and makes a frowny face when I say "maybe she's just a better driver than you" lol.

Great quarter time. Can you keep up that acceleration all the way to work?
No? Okay, lovely top speed. Can you at least maintain that all the way to work?
Fine. Can any of those cool gauges tell what you what your average acceleration and speed are? You know, what you're really capable of and not some stupid-ass stunt under ideal conditions?

As Martin Sheen once said,
I don't see any... performance at all, sir.

lol I often think and sometimes even ask aloud things like:
How fast is your car in a 50 zone?
How fast in a 30 zone?
Then they think I'm envious. As if I envy silliness.

I do get the odd remark for my Ecomodder decal.
Like if I'm into building eco friendly mud baths or something.
The wrench gets 'em. 'Modder' means mud in Dutch.

The 3/4 ton suburban I picked up only gets 6.5mpg driving it around town a little and it really sucks. There is no need of that kind of mileage in any street driven passenger vehicle and if you think that getting mileage like that is ok then you are an idiot.

This made me question people my age......calling a talon slow? Wow.........and why the heck not try for more MPG in any car? It's free if you just drive better.

I mean I'm all happy over here with 12.7 mpg just because it's better than what my dad averaged with this truck when he had it......

Then there are people who just don't even care about fuel use, I love power in an engine but good (or at least bearable) MPG figure is always a nice thing. Heck I built my engine into a 6.7L monster yet I made sure that I would have more MPG than the stock engine if I drove careful, and it does!

There was a member on a car forum i used to keep up on. We had gotten on the subject of power through efficiency and he conpletely refuted the idea, like it was not possible. Some people are just so ignorant they can't even conceive the notion that they might be wrong.

That's totally wrong.....my engine started life as a 5.9L 245HP gas hog. Now it's a 6.7L 481HP monster than gets, wait for it.....almost 3 more mpg than it did originally!

I built this engine to be as efficient as possible through maximum torque output for fuel burned and it sure as heck has WAY more HP/L than it did originally.

No offense to anyone, but i do get a kick out of seeing jacked up 4x4 trucks with offroad tires, that clearly don't drive on anything but pavement, when gas/diesel shoots up to $4/gal. Just amazes me that people are ok with spending $400/month on fuel!
