I had retro styling. It was called the "Seventies" , man.

I didn't buy this because of the styling.

I did have a choice of white or orange. I chose orange.
Still slowly drinking the first tank of fuel. The dealer gave me a WHOLE half-tan. Golly.

Edit : It's actually WHITE. My bad.

I'd practice in the dry too. It is amazing how quickly a modern motorcycle can stop. That knowledge is very valuable when an idiot pulls out in front of you.

Been my experiences that when something like that happens, you cant stop fast enough, but I only have maybe 10 instances and one time fully stopped

I saw a '16-'17 Duke 200 today, and for that model-year it unfortunately didn't feature ABS in my country as an attempt to remain cost-competitive with local Honda and Yamaha 250cc models which still resort to air-cooled engines. Due to cost the 200 had been quite a slow-seller here, while the local importer of KTM is now focusing more on the 390 which by the way is also far from being a sales leader.

That high cost is due to Brazil's massive import tariffs - 35% if I remember correctly.

AFAIK the Duke 200 was assembled locally at the Dafra plant in Manaus. The "basic production process" of the Manaus Free Port Zone allows CKD assembly to qualify for the fiscal benefits too.

Dafra Motors - interesting little wikipedia article. A company who's sole business case is reassembling motorcycles for other manufacturers to avoid Brazil's tariffs. Of course they still take their piece and CDK's avoid tariffs but still add significant cost to the vehicle.

A CKD bike is still going to cost more than local assembly or a simple import.

Dafra actually has a retail presence, selling some random Chinese and Indian TVS motorcycles with its own brand, which is also applied to Taiwanese SYM scooters.

As the models assembled by Dafra are either sourced from some countries in Asia where labor is perceived as cheap, or subcontracted assembly for top-tier makers such as Ducati, the entry-level models branded as Dafra remain cost-competitive, while the local assembly price for high-end models is easier to assimilate.

Import duties in Brazil are sky-high enough to justify the CKD assembly in Manaus.
