Agree. The neon is only $400 off the initial budget, comes in colors that could turn into a theme of some kind with little labor (words like "bee" "stinger" "bumble" come to mind but also various "taxi" and "cabbie" references... maybe an Uber killer cab theme). I think they came OEM with good suspension parts of a subcompact too. With some love, this car could do a lot of laps, be hypermiled and run an extra fuel tank. It could kill faster cars with steady long range reliability... a very "ecomodder" strategy to do well in the race.

I'm partial to a Star Wars theme. Too bad Delorean's go for much more than $500. That would be my donor of choice. I'd stay away from convertibles due to their lower frame rigidity.
