Looking for Elantra owners
New ecomodder here and looking to some of the other modders of Elantras to get more ideas. I know there are a couple of peeps out there such as Nevyn and the crimson crawler . After searching the garage I see more but a lot of people don't have their mods written down. What is everyoen else doing to their car.

While there are definatly some mods that apply strictly to specific vehicles, most mods are universal.
For instance, the Escort ZX2 likes more ignition timing and a cheap way to do this is a 5.6ohm resistor on the IAT sensor wire. You get a couple degrees more advance and a little better mpg. Things like this do not work on all cars. Grill blocks tend to work on everything though. I'd focus on the Universal type mods and study Elantras to try and figure out what issues they have that can be corrected to improve mpg/performance...although performance mods don't pay for themselves.
You've already got a great start. You just need to apply your mods carefully to your "commute". IE...aeromods don't help in stop and go traffic...etc...
The only thing that will limit your ability to go far beyond 40mpg will be your wifes willingness to sacrifice looks but she did marry you, so maybe she won't mind some plastic hanging off the sides Just Kidding LOL!

This coming from a guy who wouldn't wear deodorant until he got married. What has been getting us such good mileage so far is the wife's drive through mostly rural back roads. That may be changing here shortly as I get back to law enforcement full time and she will be going to an as needed status at the hospital. In the long run it will save us huge amounts of gas because I'lll have a cruiser to drive again and she won't be traveling the 250 miles a week. The per tank mileage is going plummet but you win some you lose some.

Oh and when will you start posting the mileage on the excursion. I put the gas guzzling Durango's mileage up. I want to see yours.

We have three automatic Elantras in the family - no mods to any of them. Your ~32 mpg is pretty good. I've only logged mileage on my wife's '06 Elantra on long highway trips where I've hung around 40 mpg. I haven't modded any of my cars, since changing driver behavior pays far bigger dividends.
I've had little success trying to hypermile with automatics. I've driven round trips one way on the highway and the other way on a frontage road 20-25 mph slower, and only saw a 2-3 mpg difference. When I hypermile with a manual, I can do 20+ mpg better.

I wish I had bought a manual but wasn't into hypermiling when I bought the car. Was just looking for something that got better gas mileage than our Durango. If I had to do it over again I would look at a Civic HX but the Hyundai is paid for . I knew they got great when I worked at the Honda dealership but I never understood why. Now I do . The main reason I started off with the aero mods is because my wife drives the car to work 31 miles one way and it is mostly 45-55 mph roads and she could care less about driving techniques. Had to go with what I could get the best out of.

I don't track the mpg on the Ex., my wife drives it and it fulfills it's purpose so I have not needed to pursue any ecomodding on it. Last tank was around 14.5mpg, a couple tanks in warmer weather were around 16-17mpg. These are pretty normal numbers for a 8,000 lb Diesel. I can tow 10,000 lb's, can you?
I can't wait to see your Eco-Modded Police Cruiser, now that would be cool!

I had a 2000 Elantra 2.0 auto for a few months before I got the Jeep. With moderate hypermiling (DWB, etc), I got 18 - 19 city (lots of short trips, etc). In the same driving, I get 12 - 13 from the Jeep.
I was always annoyed at how bad the mileage was in the Elantra compared to what I expected (don't know what it got on the highway, never did much highway driving with it). I figured out the MAF sensor was crudded up, and cleaned it, which picked up some power, and probably would have helped mpg a bit too. However, it was totaled shortly after, so I don't know how much of a difference it made.

Howdy! I'm still working on mods, but I can tell you this much. The upper grille can be closed completely without any harm to engine temps. I need to get flat wheel covers made, but my time is limited by a lot of things to do and a long commute preventing me from doing them. You have an '01, so that's before they got CVVT - That'll change things a little bit. Warning - do NOT EVER do any engine off coasting with a Hyundai auto! You'll kill it faster than huffing prussic acid.
I have partial templates for belly pan, but it's stonking COLD here in PA, so I'm hiding in the house and playing video games and working on PCs in my basement. Once it gets warmer for sure I'm going to get back at it.

I tried EOC in the hyundai a few times and could tell that something just wasn't kosher with what was happened so I stopped doing. I've wondered if their tranys are configured weird. I do put the trany in netural and coast to a stop when I'm able. Lower and upper grill are totally blocked. Once I get a scan gauge or an ultra gauge I'm making a wai. Has anyone had any experience with the maf on a hyundai like tygen1 is talking about.
