I wish I could bike. I just torn a muscle in my hip playing hockey. Time for surgery and a 6 month recovery time.

Also looks like I didn't fix the leak in the gas tank. It leaks from the lockring on the sending unit. So I have to keep it below 3/8 tank or it leaks.
Buying a new tank and sending unit next week and getting that all straightened out.

If it were me trying to choose the best route, I would choose the one that is easiest to get uphill to get to work, then use the one on the right (less stops) to get downhill on the way back home.
On my commute, I take the city which has lots of stoplights over the highway because of highway traffic and I can turn the engine off at stoplights, then on the way home I take the highway because it is faster and more fuel efficient (for my driving style).

Update:

It seems that the longer route yields better mileage.
Although this has been in the Town Car, I've averaged 19.7 mpg using the short route, and 22.9 mpg going the longer way.
All this with a car that weighs 4500 lbs.
Not too bad. The killer is that hill, going both ways, one the short route. I cannot coast. Plus that damn stop sign.
But with the longer route, going down the large hill, I can coast to the stop sign; 2.5 miles from the top of the hill to the sign.
Also, the road goes straight up the hill, no curves or crazy bends.

Carry on, carry on.

I had to do the math to see if the total fuel used worked out too
15.8mi @ 19.7mpg = .802gal
18.1mi @ 22.9mpg = .790gal

James Joyce was right: The longest way round is the shortest way home.
