Losing faith in gas stations. - Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum

The last 3 4 weeks i notice that my fuel guage isn.t reliable anymore. Before i could estimate how many liters there would go in the tank. And i was always correct (up to 0.5 liters). Now i always have to tank 1.5 2 or even 2.5 liters more for the same distance and driving style. I have a 35 liter tank. And if my light goes on there were 32liters going in. This morning i had to tank. And in my last quart it wasnt even on 1/3. And there was 31 liters going in. While all those months at that point there were 28/29 liters going in. I have found that alot of gas stations are not up to par. But this is a bit much

To avoid situations like this, I usually try to fill up at the same gas station with the same pump every single time

Well. That is the problem. This is at the same pump (well at 2 pumps) wich were for months accurate. I lost 1km/l with hotter weather and better tires. And a guage that isnt working all of a sudden. The worst case i had with an citroen i had. It had an onboard guage for fe. With distance to go. Wicht was pretty accurate for monts. And i "tried" an other gas station. I had an 55 litsr tank. Is had 120km to go, so still 5 go 6 liters in the tank. And i put 58.5 liters in the tank.

Perhaps the gas station has changed the calibration on the auto-shut-off?

There's a big difference between shut-off and full... and something may have changed at the pump so that it uses up more of that difference.

Thats ok. It could have changed. But then i would have to drive further. Because there would be morge has in the tank. But the problem is that i drive the same distance and my mpg has gone down

Are you correcting for different tire size? If I recall correctly, your new tires have a larger circumference. That would cause an apparent decrease in fuel economy if distance/odometer is not corrected, even if all else is equal.

Yes i did account for it. It is 4.66% more distance now. But they came on on thursday. En dis is going on for more than 4 weeks. But it is also more of a gut feeling then i knkw for sure. It is also that the dutch pay way to much for their gas. The company's have a record high profit per liter at the moment
