Lost 94 Honda Civic VX!

Hi Guys,

I'm a musicain that does some do some extra driving to get to gigs, an hour is not unusual. When the 94 VX was given to me, I thought I had stumbled upon the Holy Grail. The 47 MPG I was getting in my winter driving amazed me. I couldn't wait for warmer weather so that I could patch up her quarter panels & abtain even higher MPG's.

So after walking to my car, wait, where is my car? I called the police to see if it was towed, nope not the case, comming upon the realization that my Holy Grail was stolen. What to do? Luckily, the piano player that hired me was also the same guy that was able to give me the 50+ mile ride home. Lucky me, true friend.

I did make another call to make sure that my report was taken care of & called my insurance company. I've only been driving the car since after Thanksgiving. Since it was a 94, the insurance company instructed me not to put comprehensive on it being it was so old. Now I have nothing! This afternoon my wife & I will go back to the scene & drive the streets of the area as per instruction of a another police officer. I was told in most cases they take a Honda just to joyride. The real parts cars are the BMW's, MB's & the like. On my car if there was no rust there was a dent. I would believe that my car would not be a good parts car candidate. What they do is drive them for a few days & park them a few blocks from where they live. I hope so. When I left my VX, it still had 7/8 of a tank of gas, so they could be driving it for some time.:eek

If anything turns up I'll keep you posted,
Dave

Hope your car returns in one piece! That sucks that folks steal the things that others need for their livelihood.

That bites!

I also don't carry comprehensive on my old (and presumably undesirable) cars.

A VX is probably more of a target by the Uncle Ben's crowd though.

Hope it turns up.

Thanks Guys,

I had no idea that I'd have a problem with getting this car stolen. The previous owner has been playing this gig for years & never had a theft problem. He's owned the car for 10 years. Even the cassette player was worn out, no antena, just your basic Bb car.

If I don't get it back I will be looking for another high MPG car. I actually had a few bucks in my pocket. Because I have over 600 gallons of WVO stored in my back garage, maybe getting into a TDI. I don't really know that much about them.

Thanks again,
Dave

What can we do to make our prized possesions a little more theft resistent?

I have a 95 EX, and was disappointed to see that it maintains a spot near the top of the "Most Stolen Cars" list. They may have not been looking for a VX in particular, just a Honda from the early 90's. I guess that this vintage is easy to steal and the parts remain popular and very interchangeable. I'm trying to sell mine so I don't want to mess with it, but maybe hidden switches so that they can't just drive it away, or at the very least pull the coil wire or a couple of fuses or relays from the box and put them in your pocket or instrument case along with a flashlight to see while putting them back. It's a PIA, but better than going out and finding the car gone.

Install a hidden switch that kills the ignition or something. Pretty easy and if hidden well I'd imagine incredibly effective.

MR G,

I was thinking now about pulling the coil wire as a deterent. Eventually the wire breaks down though. What fuse should be pulled to disable the car?
