I think this is a great idea. It promotes healthy competition in something that will, in the end, help us all. It also gets other non-ecomodders thinking about their MPG.

you wouldn't believe the trend I started on customtacos.com (tacoma forum)
A few people are selling their 4x4's to get standard 4x2 pickups now..

They want to compete..

excellent!

It's pretty amazing the effects that high gas prices and a little competition can have.

I'm trying to somehow wire a little LCD screen onto my back window that displays in real time what my MFD display of my MPG shows...so when i'm in EV it'll show 99.9 and so on etc..

You'll most likely get a ticket for displaying one of those unless you don't plan on more than 25mph. When I do bicycle race support we have to have one of those, but if we aren't following the bike it has to be covered up. Race promoters are pretty clear on the law with those things.

Since most of us are driving at or below the speed limit, it would be clever to write on your rear glass;

-If you can read this you're saving gas !!

That might encourage someone to stay behind you for a bit longer instead of bolting around you only to stop 3 feet ahead of you.

But I will defiantely start writing my MPG's on the glass, people are all out suprised when I tell them the vibe is getting over 42mpg consistently.

Hi,

I printed out a sign this morning:

45.5 mpg
Overall
EcoModder.com

(which is my average for the last 6 tankfuls)...and after cutting it out, I taped it to the inside lower left corner of the hatch window. It sits in a blind spot (rear seat headrest), so I'm not endangering myself. I tried to notice if anybody reacted to it on my commute this morning; but nobody gave any indications...

Mike Dabrowski had a cool display on his Insight. See the "Real time external MPG display" section about 1/3 way down the page.

Mikes Tips - MIMA Honda Insight Modified Integrated Motor Assist Tour De Sol

He has a great site btw. Off topic but check out his idea for a hitch mounted e-wheel in the "Projects" section. I've been giving this alot of thought lately...
