Marvel Mystery Oil Users?

I've been using Marvel Mystery Oil in my gas for the past 6 or so months, and have to say, it's made a bit of a difference in cold weather. The car's fuel system is quieter. The engine is knocking less, as seen on my ScanGauge set to display the timing pulled when the computer detects knock. Fuel economy data is unknown, but likely good. 33 mpg highway on my last big trip isn't too shabby, especially considering the 20* F weather the whole way.

Nope, not transmission fluid. It is Mineral Spirits 20-30%, with Napthenic Hydro-Carbons 70-80%, and Chlorinated Hydro-Carbons 0-1%.

With of course the secret ingredient that makes it smell so good and makes you always want more!

Edit: Lubricity wise, it's not all that great. Going by a independent diesel additive lubricity study, Marvel Mystery Oil made no significant difference in the lubricity of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel. So it probably has about the same lubricity properties of ULSD diesel. Still more lubrication than gasoline though!

Marvel Mystery oil is 30% varsol (charcoal lighter fluid) and 70% 30wt base oil some red dye and wintergreen fragrance. It is from the late 1920s.

Its a solvent type product. Some people find it beneficial for sticky valves or some sludge dispersal. If you are depending on them for either of these reasons, you have bigger problems.

It evaporates within hours in an engine. I neither provides any corrosion protection or anti-wear benefit. It will not harm anything in the recommended concentration.

Well I don't know about "bigger problems". My Vair sits for years at a time; once when I finally got the urge to go run it, it had a ticky lifter. Dumped some Seafoam in there an voila! freed it up. So sometimes- not often though?- additives serve a useful purpose.

Hmm, didn't know about the evaporation part. It seems to stay in an opened bottle in my trunk for weeks at a time pretty well.

Even if it doesn't improve lubricity of diesel, it's likely okay for gasoline lubricity like you said. We definitely need the help with E10 since ethanol isn't a lubricant.

I use it on every oil change and in the fuel for 2 years now. Have not noticed any difference in fuel mileage.

I personally wouldn't use it in oil except as a purge.

I do use it in all my vehicles FUEL as I do see improvements in FE on most of them including my diesels. The dodge crewcab however isn't affected

MMO also helped me run a 98 Buick lesabre with a blown intake for 2yrs. before my father rev'd it in 2nd up to 80mph passing and blew out the engine anyway I still wonder why all the garages kept saying there was NO issue with the car? That was apparently a pretty common issue to have the plastic garbage leak radiator fluid inside the heads.

It also helped a 93 suburban run that would miss terrible without it.

My dad used this stuff all the time in his gas. I used it in my manual transmission along with the synchromesh only to clean it out before changing the fluid.
