WOT 2008 VW r32 GTi ExhaustGasTemp

here is scan data using VCDS

the green and faint blue traces are EGT graphed over time, max (upper limit) on the graph is 1000c and min (lower limit) on the graph is 300c
during Wide Open Throttle looking at knock retard per cylinder chasing possible restricted injectors

peak exhaust gas temperatures are upward of 800c at WOT fr0m 30mph to 70mph , that is over 1400f .
Celsius to Fahrenheit converter
bank 1 has more restricted injectors than bank 2 , but EGT on both banks is about the same

does lean condition = greater exhaust gas temperature ?
no it does not

put the myth to sleep

to be fair
the system is in fuel control and only a few cylinders are slightly lean
the cylinders in knock retard
the others are slightly rich - fuel control is per bank - both banks are adding at WOT around 5%

still EGT is pretty consistent bank to bank at all loads

The 2 high temperature points on the A/F scale are some where around 13.2: and 15.7:1, one of those is the higher of the 2 but I am not sure which one.
These areas seem to be avoided by OEMs and hotrodders.

stoich , 14.64 to 1

while i was not graphing specified lambda
i believe
the system was at lambda of 1
14.64 to 1
this system can deviate from lambda of 1 while in fuel control
"lean burn" so to speak as can most systems that have / use
front AFR sensors
which is just about everything after the mid 2000 s

over 1400f .

I guess those temperatures are normal I know gasoline engines run real hot.
Normally my N/A diesel gets no where near that, it would almost hits 1200'F occasionally before water injection.
After the turbo is in it shouldn't get much over 1000'F ever again.

EGT with turbo will be higher

i think you will find that
with the turbo installed
EGT will be higher ... much higher , than without

but
without a EGT sensor , you will never know
