Meetup in SoCal May 13
A group of EM members, Fiat 500 enthusiasts, and others will gather at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles on May 13 (Mother's Day) to show the cars and trade information and socialize. The Petersen has some great examples of eco cars. But it also has great examples of California car culture: hot rods, lowriders, and the imported vehicles of the rich and famous.
Some of us will get there 10am, others are arriving noon. Zonker is recruiting Fiat 500 owners. All are welcome. Carlos (cfg83) and I are planning to possibly send out a press release. I have experience writing press releases and he has a contact or two. I plan to invite press for about noon, if enough people commit to show-up.
The Petersen Museum's admission in $10, and it's open 10am to 6pm. We will gather the cars on the top floor of the museum garage. But there is free Sunday parking on the street below too. With many of us going into the museum and others paying parking, I am sure the museum will not be concerned about those who do not pay. However I am planning to reach out to the museum with the full plan and see what support we can get.

About 8 "confirmed" to attend, so this will be a small gathering.

Eight cars side by side is a pretty good showing.

With most of them probably unmodified Fiats I have been wondering about whether to contact press and see if we can get a story out there. Thoughts? Eight is enough?

Oh, ok, a Fiat Frenzy. I'll point my friend to this thread and see what he has to say.

Well, the Fiat 500s are economical cars, and there may be some interesting opportunities for discussions of hypermiling them. I have a posterboard about modding my car and the history/culture of modding that I'll display too. That would also provide "fuel" for a reporter's background research.

"Yeah, I know. But sorry Mom, I can't come see you on mothers day, there is an Ecomodder meet up."
I kid, but hope you guys have fun! I don't think there are going to be any ecomodder meet ups anywhere near me anytime soon.

Six fiats, including Zonker's 500, my civic, and carlos's saturn collected on the roof of the petersen auto museum's garage. Nice small grouping. We showed the cars, and explained their features. Toured museum, which features an EV1, a Centraur II hybrid, a steam-powered car, and a turbine powered car--as well as great examples of SoCal hot rods and one or two lowriders.
Carlos and I discussed a skill-share and testing meet-up at a site he has recommended repeatedly.
[EDIT: Today on the 125+ miles round trip to the museum, almost entirely on the freeway, I averaged 68 mpg, mostly doing engine-on pulse and glide, and ranging my speed from 50-65.]
Thanks guys!
