For me all the safety rules are coming first far before eco-driving. This is because I know all the EOC limitations that I will not practice it.
One of my prime rule in my job (security) is :
to do a job, use tools conceived to do that job.
so I will not switch off the engine if the car has not been conceived to work this way. I think today only hybrids are conceived to work this way so I will wait to have a prius or HCH (only choices in France).
By now I'm DFCO. From my last 188m hilly trip I did it right 'cause I averaged 50.9mpg instead of 33mpg one year ago ie a 33% save
the car is rated 40mpg and I lost only 11% time.
Independently to limitations I impose to myself, bbjsw10's post is great and I will not discourage those feeling OK to implement it.
