Nobody, I mean nobody wanted to touch my old 97 metro three-banger back in 2000 or so. I bought it for about 3000 in 1999 with maybe 27k on the clock. When I started looking for another one this year, the only ones I found were going for 2-3000 with well over 100k on them. I can only hope the Yaris I ended up buying appreciates as nicely.. (If you'd have told me the Geo could possibly appreciate back then, I'd have laughed at you)

Laz: you're right. I don't really need the car, but it's a hobby.

Johnny Mullet: I'm with you. I don't think I would sell the car even if I had a $7k offer for it.

Hmmm..
Step 1: Sell Geo for 7k.
Step 2: Get a large new-ish truck/SUV for 3k once the panic sets in.
Step 3: For $5/gal gas and 10k miles per year, 20mpg for the SUV, 50mpg for the Geo, spend an extra $1500/year on gas. (unless I messed up the math )
Step 4: Wait 2 years for gas to go down to 1.27/gal.
Step 5: Sell the SUV for 13k
Step 6: Buy a nice used Yaris or Geo for 3k
Step 7: Profit?
Step 8: Repeat!

Lol - that's a big 'if' gas goes down to $1.27. Back in 1992 gas was still $1.90/gallon here.

$13K for a 5 year old Toyota Echo here in Canada is pretty common. Everything in Canada seems to be priced higher!
