Easily done with scissors! Hard to get the raccoon to hold still though.
-----
Well, the raccoon has been evicted! It was unfortunately not still inside the tail when I drove the car out of the garage and popped the "hatch" on top to look inside.
So I don't have any hilarious pictures.
But here's what was left behind:
(Looking down from the top of the tail through the "access hatch" to the bottom surface. Must have been tasty.)
That's the underside of the access hatch. Lots of holes poked in the plastic wrap.
I was planning to replace that chewed up bottom panel with coro anyway, so it's not TOO much of an inconvenience.

If you were still looking for a paint scheme for the boat tail, I think I have a suggestion

A faux-vegan raccoon tail hanging from the antenna would be retro-something.
With a little rectangular mirror fastened inside the backlight, you could say you're testing for cross winds.

Metro, I am sorry that Nature ate your Science!
I believe that this has already been used on here, so please excuse me...
You can rebuild it. You have the technology. You can make it better than it was. Better...stronger...faster.

nature ate some more of my science!
(Xist - that line was funny!)
I have to admit I've been outsmarted by a raccoon. And so it mocked me by eating (?) some more of my boat tail!
Last week I patched up & generally critter-proofed the flimsy siding it had peeled back to get inside the garage.
Today I discovered it is now just pulling the garage door open far enough to squeeze in (it's a relatively flimsy 3/4 in. plywood door).
A neighbour offered me a live trap. I may take him up on that!

This is quite apropos:
Video: Raccoon Nation | Watch Nature Online | PBS Video
The masked buggers are quite clever and persistent... They show video of a raccoon getting into a garage exactly as you describe.

Hmm, perhaps a different approach, you should use steel wool in anything that might be tasty to various varmints in "critical" locations.
One bite of steel wool and the racoon won't want your boattail anymore.
Works great on mice.

I'd have to corner the steel wool market to plug up all the holes in this old garage!
But I did add another hasp on the door down at 'coon height after supper. So he shouldn't be able to pry the doors open tonight. We'll know in the morning!
