Might get a 2011 Honda CBR250R

I'll know later tonight or tomorrow AM. 620 miles, a month old, the owners wife got pregnant about the same time they bought the bike. Red color.
Wish me luck.

regards
Mech

The owner called me yesterday morning and told me the bike was available. Ran to the bank, hit the Scotland Neck Ferry and landed at Surry right at noon yesterday. Drove my truck from there to Aiken SC, about 420 miles, paid for the bike and loaded it in the truck and left right at 8:45 PM. Averaged 20 MPG the whole trip 850 miles on 43 gallons of fuel. NO hypermiling techniques just 85% 70 MPH Interstate and US 40 from Spring Grove to I95 and back the same way.

I really didn't think I still had it in me at close to 61 but hey, new toys have a way of doing that to you.

Going back to sleep for a while.

Looks like a fun toy. How do you think it'll compare to the Rebel mpg wise?

Congrats on the new toy!

Let us know what it can do. Looks like it would be a good excuse to get out of the house and put on a few hundred miles - shouldn't cost you much in gas, that's for sure.

From what I have read the Rebel seems to get better mileage. My thoughts are it is a matter of power, with the CBR considerably more powerful, then applying that power uses considerably more fuel. With 6 speeds I am hoping the CBR has better high speed gearing. I really want to just go out and blast off a few times, but I am still a zombie from the drive, so common sense says take it easy and get used to the new bike.

On my local route it will be very interesting to see how well I can do. Will get a log going very soon with comments about the differences.

Many people seem to think the Rebel is underpowered. I think it has enough power for almost any situation, having driven a 58 VW, those who have know exactly what I am talking about.

On the other hand those hypermilers that do the best over EPA are typically driving cars that are poorly designed for high mileage, especially in final drive gearing. I think I calculated my trucks revs per mile at 1550 and if showed in the highway mileage.

I would love nothing better than to see the CBR hit 100 MPG, and I think its possible but not at sustained high speeds.

One of the motorcycle mags ( motorcyclist?) did a comparo with a ninja 250, hysong 250 and the cbr250 recently.
The Honda got the best average test milage by far at around 70 mpg, and that was not in any way trying to go for milage. I have no doubt you can get 100mpg with careful driving.

I'd like to try one too Especially mileage-wise.

And it's a sexy looking bike. Much better than the tricolor one at our dealer.
