If that's the case then it will show up in the Carbon intensity per kWh, but either way we're still going to see a lot of regional variation.

Perhaps the goal of the MPG sticker is operational cost, the $/mile. If someone is buying a new car, they can see the list price and understand what they will be paying +/- negotiation. The MPG simply provides an estimated $$/mile, not perfect but no worse than the MSRP sticker price.
I appreciate the exercise and subtleties but in the big picture, information about the impact on family budget comes first.

Issues with Watt Hours per mile are that most people have no idea what a watt hour is; and the lower the number is, the better.
Maybe we should put the average powertrain efficiency? I.E. ~18% for ICE's and 85% for EV's. Or, both the average and the peak efficiency? I think most ICE's peak around 30-32%, while EV's can peak at ~90%.
By the way, in my xA with most of my grill covered, it still takes 4-6 miles (depending on the season) to come fully to operating temperature (184F), so I'll bet the efficiency during this warm up time is less than 10 or 12%? For an average drive (less than 20 miles), this means as much as 1/3 of the drive is lower than 18%.

MPGe really doesnt work and should not be in the "Top MPG" list.
how would ya'll feel if I listed my buddies sled dog team ? I can calculate the 2.3L per Hr they put out times 6-8 dogs at X MPH. Would that me MPGe ?
Or if I added a scrubber in the bed of my truck it would cut my CO2 output by 90%, could I claim 160 MPGe ?
I personally would feel I was lying just to make my numbers look good. Havent we had conversations here before about lowballing EPA #s on vehicles that dont have them just to have higher %s over ?
Let's all be adults here and drop the MPGe stuff.
KWH/M is KWH/M
MPG is MPG

MPGe does not indicate anything to do with carbon dioxide output. It is an energy equivalency; not a pollution or carbon footprint comparison.
It uses BTU's -- which is the one thing that Matt left out of his chart...

So if we are comparing BTUs, do we add a 1.89 correction factor for alcohol ?
An active person outputs 1000-1300 BTUs/hr, so is there a MPGe for HPVs ?
Comparisons can be a slippery slope.

The X-Prize MPGe spreadsheet is based on E10, I believe.

...true (or not?), but at least it was an agreed-to, standardized, equivalent for the time being.
