my old job used for econolines and the gas cap recomended using BP gasoline.

I think that theres some kick backs between the two.

meaning...we'll give you free oil for the cars coming out of assembly if you put our logo on the cap to convince people thats what they need to use.

i dont think thats the case when it comes to a recommended oil in an engine. the gasoline thing sounds like its a marketing gimmic.

Well, if it was just recommending oil, it would say an oil type, like 5W-30, or synthetic only, or something like that. Not an exact brand. My girlfriend's Corolla has an oil filler cap that says 5W-30 on it, but it doesn't tell her to only use Mobil 5W-30 oil.

Remember guys, factory fill is all about marketing and money! Mobil pays the manufacturers to install their oil in new cars. Oil cap labels are much the same, although recommending a quality oil may forestall damage due to negligent maintenance.

As for M1's FE oils, I'd be cautious. Don't use their 0W-20 in a vehicle that calls for xW-30. Even their 0-30 is on the thin side, IMO, with lowish HTHS numbers. Many European car manufacturers specify stouter oil.

Don't expect miracles from this stuff! Even Mobil only claims a one or two % increase in FE. The OP's 5+ MPG boost is almost certainly due to other factors.

You mean like 0.5% right?
