Mpguino does not time-out or reset.

I installed my "official mpguino preassembled" yesterday. I put it in the Radio Shack box that others have done.

It's in a 95 Del Sol S.

I assume, per instructions, that the display should shut off after 7 minutes of no injector or VSS pulses. Then when it restarts, it starts with a new current trip mpg. Is this correct?

Mine does not turn off or reset. Even after setting overnight, the display was still on, and the current trip data did not reset.

Is it possible that I have a wrong variable for timeout(micro sec)? What should that number be?

It seems to be working as it should except for the timeout/reset.

When it shuts off, it only turns off the backlight, the text will still show.

But it should be resetting the current data after the default of 7 minutes. The tank data will remain the same, but the current screen should go to all 0's.

The timeout value is in microseconds, so the default is 420000000. I would try changing that to a different value to see if that works. I have mine set to 3 minutes (180000000), there's no real reason for it, but you can change it to pretty much anything. Just don't make it too small, or it'll be shutting off too early.

There is a new development this morning.

When I got in the car this morning, the lcd screen was blank and the backlight was on. I left the back light off last night.

Now the screen stays blank, with the backlight on. There is no response to any of the buttons.

I disconnected the unit for about one minute and then re connected. Same thing; screen blank, and backlight on.

Except for not resetting current data after 7 minutes, it seems to work fine for a day and a half.

Any ideas?

Well that's weird...

All I can think of is to try unplugging it for longer, to make sure it really powers down.

How did you leave the backlight off overnight, did you unplug it, or did it turn off automatically?

you have to be real deliberate when hooking up the power, the flash is likely corrupt (most common mode of failure). Send the chip back in a SASE and I will reflash it for you if you do not have the facilities to reflash it.

Thanks dcb,

Where do I send it? I have tossed the package it came in.

Also, I'm not sure how to be "real deliberate" when hooking up the power. I wired the plug completely to the car, then conneccted it to the mpguino. It powered up immediately and worked for a day and a half. Only problem at first was that it did not reset after 7 minutes (not even overnight). Then this morning, the blank screen.

Depending on the day mine will either show the previous trip or all 9s. Still works so I'm not going to complain.

sometimes turning on the key will create a vss or injector event in vehicles I've seen. I can see the last trip but then I move the key to "on" and the backlight comes on and the "current" goes to either 999999 or 0.
