MPGuino installed!

Yeah, I know, really this is an "Instrumentation" topic item - but I'm so psyched, I got it into its carefully modded and fitted case, wired up, pretty well calibrated, and it's working great! Definitely a success story.

MPGuino said 45.00 mpg on the trip home from work today - and that's nearly 60 miles.

Actually I have a SG too, I got that first.
The MPGuino requires tapping into the car's wiring to get a signal so it's a much tougher installation than the SG. I was leery of that but mobythevan gave me the tips I needed.

The Civic HX is one of the few cars where you won't get a real mpg readout on a ScanGauge. So I use the SG as a tool to maintain Lean Burn as much as possible. Its GREAT for that! And now the MPGuino to read actual mpg.

My HX has lean burn, which means the air-fuel ratio does not stay at stoich (14.7:1??). The ScanGauge assumes stoich. It gets air volume data from the ECU, assumes stoich, and so derives fuel qty. Also gets a signal if its in open or closed loop so I believe it can compute for rich running in open loop. It doesn't read injector squirts like the MPGuino does. With lean burn the SG always has errors. Since you can only guess how much of the time you're in lean burn you can't really get an accurate mpg readout from a SG for an HX or for any Honda with lean burn (I think the original Insight had it too).

Sorry - gotta go. Getting up in 6 hours for work!
