dcb -

My kit shipped on the 6th (yesterday) - When I get it hooked up I'll take pictures for posting on the wiki for a 93 Saturn SL2 - unfortunately it will be after Christmas since it's a Christmas present... However, I'm trying to do all the pre prep work (identifying wires and such) before I get my kit.

So - when I do get those pictures taken, I'll let ya know, maybe I won't be the only 93 SL2 owner who puts in a MPGuino

Received my kit today - I guess that first batch of winter weather hampered the mail a bit... Ordered Saturday 6 Dec, recieved today 15 Dec. I'll start the build soon, but will have to wait until Christmas to install in vehicle ( I don't have a DMM yet, but am suppose to get one for Christmas ).

Looks like a challenging soldering job for me. After reading through the whole 40 page thread on the project and recent posts about others who have received their kits, I think I can put it together.

Just a quick thanks to dcb for all the time and hard work he has put to the project from day one. I'm sure these kits would not be around without all his work.

Build Complete! Tested on PC power - Good! Now, I just have to wait until Christmas for my DMM to find the right injector wire

Alrighty, I started my wiring - and here's what I've got so far... I've identified and taped all my proper wires, I've stripped and tinned my phone wire. I temp soldered my power and ground line to the proper sources on my car ( cig lighter ). My MPGuino still works great on USB power, well, when I plug in my phone wire which is grounded and has power nothing happens...

I've checked resistance between the power prong on the RJ11 Receptacle and D1, and checks good (00.1) ohms.. I've checked power coming in from the temp solder point to the prong on the male jack.. 12.2 v. Good coming across the wire, good going to D1, but no power to my MPGuino...

Suggestions would be welcome!

It's 12.1 V. on the input side of D1, and 11.7 V on the output side of D1.

Check to see if the 7805 is outputting any power. It should be 5v on the right pin (text up, pins pointing down). Double check your soldering, too.

Measured to chasis ground I've got 11.8 V on each pin... All 3. I retouched the solder on pin 2, still 11.8, 11.6, 11.6 on each pin.. When I measure pin 1 and 3 with 2 as my ground I get 0.0...

Once again, the MPGuino still works great under PC power...

I just did the ohm check on the 7805 -

1 2 3
1 8.38 8.78
2 Inf 10.12
3 Inf 5.6

So is my 7805 Bad?

I got mine for Christmas from the kids.
Sometimes they actually listen to me.
Now I have to find the time to assemble it, which means re0learning to solder electronics.
DCB,
Prepare yourself for yet another "Help!" thread.

With 12V on the left pin and ground on the middle pin, the right pin should be 5V. Something is definitely not right.
