Must see: Luc Besson's "Home: A Movie Happening"

The Wife and I just got back from watching Luc Besson's film "Home: A Movie Happening".
It is stunning, beautiful, and very moving. When watching, you realise that you don't want to eat any more meat, you don't want to drive a car, or buy imported goods, or even local if it's sprayed with pesticides and harvested by huge oil-guzzling machinery. You want to unplug your house from the grid, tear up your lawn and plant your own potatoes. You want to recycle even more, even if it means going through your neighbors' trash. Save water, save oil, save coal, save energy, save the Earth (from people).
All of this just through Yann Arthus-Bertrand's aerial view of the Earth, of what people have and are doing to it.
I sincerely recommend this movie to everyone.

once again my internet tortures me. Anything good anywhere is like 25 bytes a second.

The inspiration to stop eating meats ain't gonna happen. Its like all claiming jesus until auto industry fails.

My first impression of nature doing work was in frigid cold sitting in a log home with a huge south wall, gigantic windows top to bottom, enough to give a suntan in the winter..while outside the snow drifted by in the teens F degrees...amazing.

Now I am in a place with a landlord complaining of a 40 dollar electric bill while the heat mysteriously kicks ON when the room hits 80F...bizarre world of contrast. no leaders in sight without the dainty mind that goes with being correct. Imagine if correct had a meat eating army...and lack of slumlords rolling in the dough that buys it.

I might watch it this week if its still on Youtube. I like to see the opposing view. I don't believe in man-made global warming, the Earth has cycles and we aren't warming right now (the Sun has more influence than you know). As for the environemment in general, I believe we have a part to play regardless. On that note, I do participate in trail cleanups (where others just leave their trash), and am active in land use activities and education (Tread Lightly and Blue Ribbon Coalition). I think we all need to do our part in keeping the areas around us litter free. Yes, I drive 4x4s and enjoy getting to areas few go to. I carry trash bags in my Jeep and pick up other peoples trash as I find it. And believe me, not all of it comes from motorized users.

As a retired military member, I've traveled the world and no matter what WE do, getting other countries in line to do their part is pretty damned important. In this country, we've sure come a long way from the tearful Native in the commercials from the 70s. But more is always needed... And we aren't the only ones that need to do it.

Global warming is not very tangible a notion, especially when you're not directly impacted. Whether or not global warming is man made, deforestation undeniably is. 25% of the original US forests are gone today and 50% of original mature tropical forests are gone too. That can't be good.

Leading to loss of topsoil, siltification of estuaries and harbors.

The Euphrates Delta....the old world shows what will happen to us.

Afganistan mountains of dust everywhere.....the moon, greek hills of rubble with no topsoil. Figs and olives cause the goats ate everything else.

We in the new world are educated? And we know better?

At least it will cure the obesity epedemic.

Afghanistan has pretty must always been a huge dust bowl.
But much of the surrounding regions are drought-ridden because the USSR drained the Aral sea over the course of decades.

At the end of the day I still find the proposal that CO2 is a "pollutant" to be preposterous. Nature has and continues to produce it in an abundance far in excess of what we will ever manage to add to those figures. The oceans act as huge CO2 sinks and the storage an release of those deposits depend directly upon the sun.
