Spirited driving with the top down the whole time and...no real change to gas mileage! Thought all those unnecessary 5k+ rpm shifts would have killed it. Apparently not?

Yea I had mine up to 140mph once (down a 6% grade, mind you) and 130 another time my last tank. Didn't really seem to affect anything. Does seem to matter what I do to mine, stuck just below 30 haha.

Every time you update with new info, you gimme the Miata itch.
I'm going start repairing the my floor in mine around the end of the month. I'd like to have it on the road in August, and then aim for 40+ MPG on my next fill.

Too bad about Photobucket wrecking all the linked images in this thread.

3750rpm at 75, and I have massive tires compared to stock. 205-50-15's vs I think stock is like 185-45-14. Not to mention they are extremely sticky tires.
I also run the AC about 50-75% of the time.

How costly would it be for manufacturers to just add 1 more "cruise" gear for sporty cars to get good MPG?
My Acura suffers the same problem, and it has 6 speeds! The 6th isn't useful on the track because the car isn't powerful enough to ever get to a speed to use it, and it's pointless on the freeway because it revs way too high to get good MPG. My 6th is basically a waste.

NB 6-speed with a 3.63 rear end is the best combo ever. 1-5 is the same ratio of 1-5 on the NA, and 6th is used as a 'cruising' gear. Eventually I'm going to upgrade, but the transmission is 600 and the rear end is 600-900.
