Yes.

I was just going to 3D model the car in Fusion and run simulations on it there, way less work

Also less versimilitude.

You must be very good in fusion. I think taping yarn to a car to be much faster and easier. What software are you going to use for simulation?

We'll see what Trekintosh says, but I'm watching the OpenVDB support in Blender. A sparse shallow B-tree sitting on top of the fastest evolving [Free and Open] software in the 3D space.

You can also just drive through dust.
We have also had members go to wind tunnels. That is some commitment!

I was just gonna use the built in fluid simulation I thought Fusion had. It's not perfect but good enough for me.

I ran across a picture of tuft testing while tracking down a picture that California98Civic posted earlier in the same thread:
You need to buy yarn and tape! You need to cut up the yarn and tape! You need to give your car a really thin wig...

Have you tried that yet? Have you modeled your [or any] car? CFD can be non-trivial.
Will you be rendering locally or in the cloud (Fusion 360)?

Yes to model a car, no to this car, no to CFD in general, probably the cloud, this is multiple years in the future and I have a Guy for Fusion if I need help. Honestly though I really don't plan on majorly reshaping the car's body. I'm not a great metalworker, this is beyond my means, at least until I get a garage with a workshop.

Photogrammetry Software. Probably https://all3dp.com/1/best-photogramm...autodesk-recap

Look for OpenVDB support

You could do tuft testing in an afternoon. Do 1/4 of the vehicle at a time, maybe a dozen tufts minimum. All it takes is a chase vehicle and co-conspirator with a camcorder.
