Remove half the cockpit to make a 1+1 and extend the tail.

An air dam is just an aerodynamic band-aid to divert air away from non-aerodynamic parts of the car (the rough underside). You can get a lower Cd by installing a smooth underpanel and allowing the air to flow straight and smoothly under the car rather than by installing an air dam and diverting the air around the sides of the car. The only reason to install an air dam would be to increase downforce (produced at the expense of increasing the drag) or if you didn't want to install smooth underbody panelling. None of the ultra-low Cd vehicles use air dams. They all have smooth undersides and, in many cases, have a lot of ground clearance to allow the air to pass under the vehicle with minimum disturbance. A low-flying aircraft fuselage suspended on wheels rather than a limpet scooting across the ground shoving everything out of the way.

Aloha: Please send link to the headlight conversion you mentioned

Wink: The seals are dry rotting on the sunroof and it's real noisy and I want it gone before it starts to leak. That , And I do not wish to pay what Nissan wants for new seals and such.

basjoos: thanks for the input, I did put in the airdam as a bandaid because it was much quicker and easier for now than to fab up the underpanel. I do have some suspension components that hang down lower than the lowest point on the nose and I started to make and underbelly but when fitting realized that there was about a 2inch gap that would slope downward and create lift on the front end if did that without somehow leveling it. I will post a pic so you can see what I mean.

Front air dams are popular in racing because they are easy to build, and reduce drag and increase downforce. On the street, they are popular for a racy look. For the best economy, you want smooth flow under the car as well as over it. The venturi effect can still neutralize lift.

Alohaspirit, are you talking about the 50mm Hella projectors?

I doubt you'd get good light from Hella projectors under Lexan sheets, because they'd be too low in the body. It's a common problem with Miata headlight conversions- the light can't go downward enough.

you are right as some people arent satisfied with the light output

although i think someone found a way around the fog problem by using some sort of polish to eliminate the reflection inside the lexan

some guys on this forum liked the way it turned out and said its better than stock
Headlight conversion like this one? - MX-5 Miata Forum

its basically a geometry debate

but you could always add fogs

I have some posts in that thread.

I came up with an idea of my own-- put the projectors in teardrop shaped pods mounted on aerofoil shaped stalks. They'd be high, for good light distribution, and because of the distance from the body they wouldn't spoil the airflow.
