You hear that all the time, but i've never had a fuel pump fail.

my car is a 1994 its losing close to 30% of its FE potential to E10 what do you think would happen if I stuck E35 in it.

92 Club Wagon 96 Voyager 95 Lumina 94 Lumina 98 Windstar all hosed the fuel pumps on going to E10 what do you think E35 would do to them.

E35 means the fuel is SERIOUSLY hygroscopic. ie Phase separation would take little more than a breath to occur. so what do you think E100 mixed with water would do to your car? because on the very first phase separation thats what your car would be trying to run on. E100 mixed with Water. The gasoline would be separate and floating ON TOP OF the E100 mixed with water.

Yeah it would HOSE your car good. if you got REALLY lucky you would simply hydroloc realize what happened and not attempt to run the car anymore and hopefully not thump your cam shaft or piston rods if that potentially unburnable fluid could not get our your exhaust valves fast enough.

1990 ish cars were NEVER EVER intended to run on E anything but E0

manufacturers claim they can "handle" E10 without damage. NOT ONE manufacturer I know of will rate a normal 1990's vehicle for ANYTHING over E10.

Running OUT of gas is bad for the pump. the cooling is largely inside with the fuel running "through" the pump which is what is doing the cooling.

its when you run OUT of gas and the pump keeps going that things could degrade.

Nerys, were you ever able to get/make non-ethanol fuel and test it on your normal routes then?

If it's just when you go out of state it would be easy for people to write it off as just getting better mileage because of longer trips and more highway driving.

yes I was able to make my own by water washing. I saw a 9mpg improvement in fuel economy. I however have NOT been able to test this on "summer blend" gasoline. that was winter blend. SO it may have been a larger increase due to ethanol AND winter blend mixing???

in the summer I lack the funds to go buy 30-40 gallons of gasoline since summer is when I have my events and trips planned. (naram ldrs etc..)

I also discovered my container I used to MAKE IT will not work long term. it lasts for about 20-30 gallons of gas before the ethanol destroys the plastic (only at the bottom where the ETHANOL sits) the gasoline does not effect the plastic.

I am on the prowl for a larger than 5 gallon glass carboy. wine makers etc.. use them sadly they are also rather expensive. Once I find such a thing at a price I am afford I will try again with summer blend gasoline.

On E10 I get 52-54mpg I am hoping to break 60mpg with E0. its just a matter of time and money.

I have a LOT of work to do on my geo my van and my boat this summer so we shall see.

Thanks! Which vehicle did you get the 9mpg improvement with? What were you getting with E10 at the time?

with the geo metro XFI. I was getting 45-46mpg and when I switch to "washed" gas "OR" purchased E0 My fuel economy went to 54-55mpg and STAYED their ever tank until I went back to E10 at which point it immediately dropped back down to 45-46 (winter blend)

In the summer blend on E10 I get 51-54

I hit 59mpg once but that was doing 70-75mph in the suck zone behind a semi for a few hours. :-)

My jeep gets 24 on E0 19 on E10
My van gets 19-20 on E0 13-16 on E10
My Minivan gets 28 on E0 20-21 on E0

The station where I was buying E0 just went to E10, I have alist of other stations but seems the whole damn state is E10 now!

What I have seen is about a 10%-15% reduction in MPG from using E10.

I am amazed at how much trouble you have gone through to wash the bad (E10) gas.

As consumers we should have the choice to not used E10 fuel.

Damn the Mega rich factory farms for bribing our congress!
