I don't think they failed, I think they accomplished exactly what they were supposed to.

The fail isn't capitalism, it's a convoluted tax structure written by people trying to make themselves and their cronies wealthy. So you have to play games and find for yourself the loopholes they carved out for their friends, or their friends end up so far ahead they can buy your honest company for pennies on the dollar.

Yep. Hub motors in a pickup truck was the wrong answer to a question never asked for a problem that didn't exist.

Not surprised. Lordstown was just a way for Workhorse to get rid of their failed W15 truck when they decided to focus on delivery vans.

I'm a bit surprised that Foxconn got in the action but maybe they just wanted the factory.

Meanwhile the remaining players align behind Tesla's North American Charging Standard
Quote:
North American Charging Standard
The North American Charging Standard, previously known as the Tesla charging connector, is an electric vehicle charging connector system developed and owned by Tesla, Inc. It has been used on all North American market Tesla vehicles since 2012 and was opened for use to other manufacturers in 2022. The Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Rivian, and Volvo have announced that they intend to equip their future vehicles with NACS charging inlets.Wikipedia

Interesting. On an EV forum, the consensus was that CCS was the de facto standard, and Tesla could either abandon their design now, or a little later.

CSS was the defacto standard then wow what a difference 2 weeks makes.
About like how drinking a budlight and watching tucker Carlson on foxnews was the standard for some people.
And man all that all changed in about 2 weeks.
Tesla eventually got what they wanted, they wanted to be the standard but arrived a bit late to become the standing standard.

As I understood it, Tesla wanted to use the existing public standard, but it wasn't advanced enough at that time, so he had to make his own. Becoming the standard is probably just an unlikely benefit, just like having a successful auto manufacturing startup is also unlikely.

CCS is a standard that is controlled by a standards committee. Every manufacturer except for Tesla uses it today. Tesla’s plug is proprietary and until last year it wasnt open other manufacturers to use without giving Tesla all of their own patents. Of course nobody took them up on that.

What changed was last year the feds said to get federal money for chargers the charger had to have a CCS plug. With that the writing was on the wall for the Tesla plug. So Musk opened up the Tesla plug to anyone without the poison pill. They also said they would hand off control of it to a standards committee and now it has been announced that SAE is that committee. With those changes other automakers are open to using the Tesla plug.
