I might be able to help with this. I know a little UI theory and have some artists in the family for visual direction.

In a later comment you sounded almost like you just wanted a background image to drop the gauge. What exactly do you need done, and what are the exact constraints?

Sorry, haven't worked on Arduino stuff lately - got sidetracked on a GPS logger project, and one of those TI watch kits - but I've read all these posts with great interest.

Yes, if you read back to the beginning of this thread the resolution of the LCD display is mentioned - and yes I was thinking of a bitmap "backdrop" and only animating the gauge indicators. The LCD device I have, has a built-in microSD memory card with FAT file system, it's easy to load different gauge bitmaps.

If that's all you need anyone can just grab any non-copyrighted image off the internet and resize it. Can it be .jpg? Can it be full color depth or is it limited to 8 or 16 bit?

What did you have in mind? Something leafy? Something high tech looking?

I think he means that the stationary parts of each gauge like the outline, fixed numbers, tick marks, labels and such should be a background image, while any moving parts like needles, numerical displays, bar graphs, X-Y graphs - anything that changes - would be actively rendered by the panel hardware.

So will a guy just be able to upload the code to the MPGuino chip via USB and solder on a new display?

Lightbulb suggestion

I feel great the idea of using L2C for the screen to save pins and cables reduce the difficulty of the connection, be easier to place the devices in small spaces and so well I love the ability to shut down the system and the display shows only the date and time when the module is inactive obd, if I mistake the brightness of the screen should not be used for PWM output uses the intensity that goes with it because we could not damage the atmega?

thanks
