New to the forums... e85 is terrible mpg..

Hello everyone. New to the forums.

I'm selling my current daily driver. been on the Tampa Bay area for 5 years now. Been N/A, nitrous, now turboed. Motor is still strong. 462whp 336wtq and 23mpg on e85.

Trying to get my hands on a mostly unmolested VX. See what kind of tuning and fun we can get out of the ole girl.
I want more mpg I am however not a (engine off coaster) or all those other things... driving shouldn't be a bloody chore. Hoping to get in 50s combined driving.
If I do get one I'm going to start picking everyone's brains.

Welcome to the site Wiegraf. That looks like a fun Civic you have there.

A VX can do 50 mpg, but not by being driven normally. You will need to try to get there for sure. Most of us think of it as a game instead of 'a bloody chore'.

Lol but I drive alot of highway... I would get a Hondata s300 V3 and see if we could tune it a little more mean and little more timing up top. That's one way to help and possibly getting it to lean burn at idle would be another good idea. Small victories. With s300 I'll have full access to the ignition and fuel tables. As well as even vtec if i could find a better rpm for it. It'll take alot of playing around with a scangauge (now should i get a 2 or an E scangauge).

I just need to contact the gurus. See if there is any compression trickery or are these like the insights where you want high(er) EXT, IAT, and EOTs.

Hi,

You have to have five posts before you can drop in some pictures. You're almost there.

I second Daox. You can do better than 50mpg in a VX, but you should expect it to take some effort on your part. The VX is supposed to be great for mileage. I don't know how much you can accomplish with just tuning.

Just as an example of what's possible, The Donkey CRX has blown far, far past that level with his two cars, but in both cases everything he does is about drag reduction, giving the engine less to do. And then when you look at his fuel logs, you'll see his tanks are up to 20% engine off coasting - over a hundred miles per tank.

Good luck finding an unmodded VX. That's hard. I want one myself and I've pretty much given up hoping, but more power to you.

I.actually know where one is thats why i said that. But yeah. Flat undercarriage, blocked up front, try and use hondata for a little better tune, coilovers to lower it a little.
The diffuser he has in the back I liked alot. Maybe i will get a kill switch... but living in Florida there isn't any place to coast except for coming up to stop lights... but in that case I think vx lean burn as long as VSS is over 5mph (will verify) and other ideas would be nice but i dont need any crazy looking car and what not...

And I will have an afr gauge.

Been looking it's about 2500 for a ratted out 180+ mile one with IMA light on. 1000 for the MIMA, half of them probably need a clutch by now other half batteries are shot. They are 100% not some a dozen especially in Tampa Bay area.

I dont travel to buy cars.. that's how people waste money.
Idc to much about appearance but most of the ZE1's I see are CVT (junk , lower mileage, CVT is normally ****) or manual with IMA issues or 200k + which is an all around worn out car.

I know you say you won't travel for a purchase and I totally get that, but:
https://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/5898468685.html

A G1 Insight for under $2000 and it doesn't look like it's in too rough a shape. If I didn't need at least three seats for us carpooling, I'd think about it. But you called it: over 200K miles. It does have the manny though.
