At least a GM small-block V8 (either the classic one or the LS-series) may have more aftermarket support, and it can be good even to have your own efficiency-oriented recipe

If you wouldn't really want a V8 you can already have some fun with the Vortec 4300 V6.

I'm not so obsessed about V8, but they do look nice. Mostly when they're fitted with a supercharger
