Interesting results today on the way in... using what I have learned/tested on the new route, I went back to my old route which is much more steady speed with a few small hills etc and the fact I was running late, I pulled better mpg than I have in months...

49.1mpg according to the scan gauge, and I did some EOC (untracked distance).

Every take off I targeted 11.5-12.0 map sensor reading (+75-80% load), and steady speed I tried to keep in my high mpg mode (45mph with 6.6 map). When I messed up or hit a hill and either the auto trans down shifted, or I gave it too much gas and the only way to reset is to speed up to 47mph and drop back down to the 43-45 range, I pushed it to the 11.5-12 map readings (normally did around 10.0 before) till I got to the speed and let off and adjusted to get into the mode again....

Also since I was running late (for both routes really), I had a few sessions of 65-70mph pulses on the most untraveled road of the route, all followed by an EOC to either a corner, or to ~50mph to get in the high mpg mode. Even though I was going so fast, my average MPG kepted climing!

I'm going to keep a close eye out for a corolla with a manual now... sounds like they perform about the same fuel saving tricks, but 100% control over the trans + bump starts are a must for EOC. Might watch for a matix like Weather spotter's too, similar system, better areo body, just front/rear need some work.

I found P&G is basically a must for my car on all cold starts (under 130F), since the auto refuses to shift into OD/lockup my best steady speed mpg is ~30mpg @ 35-40mph. P&G I can go about the same average speed, but get to 30mpg average within the first 1/2 mile! Steady speed it seems to take ~ 3 miles to get the 30mpg average...

a vibe is a GM matrix. they tend to run 10% cheaper.

HAHA, might have to do that . I think I would redo the front end slightly in my design. Back end is pretty good though.

I think we would have to fight to get the best mpg out of them then :P.
