New Toyota RAV4 EV in 2012!
What was old, is new again!
BREAKING: Tesla and Toyota to develop RAV4 EV, hope to launch in 2012 — Autoblog Green
This is completely excellent news!
I hope they do a little aero-modding and close up most/all of the front grill (since there is virtually no heat, or certainly no where near as much heat!), and eventually, it would be great to have a smooth floor pan on the EV version; since there is no need for an exhaust tunnel, etc.
And I hope they keep the "easy coasting" set up of the original RAV4 EV! I think that having regen on the accelerator is for the birds -- why do you think it is called the accelerator pedal, and the other one is the brake pedal? ;-)

Interesting! I saw that Rav4/Tesla news somewhere, then I heard Bill Gates is investing a lot into another EV with Eco Motors (I do not know if it is the same Eco Motors making that 3-wheel 650cc vehicle).

It's nice to see, too bad they wasted the last decade fighting EVs and denying that they would ever build another electric. That's true of all big auto OEMs though. Seems like Big Auto has finally been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

I just saw an older RAV4 EV on the 405 freeway earlier this week, I didn't think those were still running around. One of those would be perfect for my 40 mile round trip commute everyday.

Yeah, but I think DeSoto was better :
The Powerflite automatic transmission
Quote:
PowerFlite no-clutch automatic transmission has a unique record for delivering care-free service. The design has been right, and right from the start. PowerFlite also has the advantage of push-button control...within easy reach of the driver, but away from any other hands (particularly from young fingers) ...

The irony is that the Rav4 EV and the Fiat 500 have them where kiddies can press them :

Good for Toyota for finally coming back to the EV game, even if they are doing it through Tesla. But it will help sustain Tesla, and give the world the Rav4 EVs again!
