Newbie from TN

Well I have been looking at the website for a while and finally decided to join. I have a 96 civic dx 5speed 4door that I purchased about 2 months ago. In the last week I have bought a Scangauge..removed power steering..removed mud flaps and made a front grill block. I also have the lower blocked about half way. Today was my first drive with all that done with a close eye on the temps.

Any other ideas for just starting feel free to share. I have done my homework on p&g but need alot more practice.

Thanks for any help

Welcome. I'm in Knoxville.

Start a garage page for your ride so you can track your numbers. And speaking of numbers, how did your temps look? The weather was blissfully cool this morning so if you're at all concerned about overheating, that gave you a little bit of wiggle room.

It was very cool this morning!! I have a feeling I will be pulling over on the way home and removing the lower block. The highest it got was 202 and that was a pretty long hill.

Any idea what temp the fans kick on in my car?

probably 180ish

Pump up your tires to 40+ psi.

The fan probably kicks in a bit over 200F. You'll see it on the SG because the temp will just plummet.

Well the temp does not seem to be a problem. This afternoon was 200 tops.

On a different note....this morning on the sg showed 51.5 mpg avg and on the way home 57.0. That is way higher than hand calculated before but i was staring at the sg. I feel when i shut it off going down hills and it shows 9999, its gotta be giving false readings for the avg but what do i know.

Instant MPG readings are fun, aren't they? You get 9999 because the SG can't display ∞

I think it's the general consensus from everyone here that the SG gives you the overall character of how you're doing, but if you want actual data you're going to have to do the math. My HCH does what all the SGs do: it reads high.

There are precious few flat places where I can take full advantage of lean burn. It's just so hilly.
