Good on ya. If only you'd had an Ecomodder business card to hand him, like hot rodders used to do in the 50s.

Well I think I can stop looking for the cleanest 4th gen Civic ever now. I am not going to buy it, but I don't think I'd ever find a nicer one. If only I could find a wagon this clean I'd be set.
The bad (to us anyway): automatic Si model.
The good:
This car hasn't been detailed or repainted, it's just always been that nice. Interior is mint. New tires, one owner even serviced at Honda, and traded in at a Honda dealer, more than likely the same one it was bought new at. No rust, as in not even a bubble or blister in the original paint, no dents or damage, or accients. And yes that is the correct mileage, 101k KMs (that's 62000 original miles!) If ever a 4th gen Civic was crying out for a VX / HF drivetrain swap, it's this thing! But I am saving my stuff for the perfect wagon, it has to be out there somewhere ha ha

I took a Ford Fusion Hybrid Energi for a rip today. My boss had one as a courtesy car and let me have a go. Man. What a car. Even in EV only mode it rips - lots of power. But the trunk is no longer useable because of the battery pack and the price tag is quite steep.

It's soo sad when you find a car in such superb condition, only to find it has the absolute worst engine and transmission combination possible. I might buy it anyway just to see what I could get for mileage but it probably wouldn't be better than my truck.

Yes, that Si even had working AC, I don't think I have seen that in one around here. Apparently it belonged to someone in the owner of the Honda dealerships family since new, which would explain all the Honda maintenace and the fact that it was in such beautiful condition. It sold for a lot of money, well a lot more than I thought it would anyway, the guy that bought it will be into it for close to $3000 by the time he pays fees, tax, etc. I stopped bidding at $1200! Hey, I said I wouldn't buy it, I never said I wouldn't TRY to buy it ha ha

At least in the US, that is an oxymoron. I believe that the Si-trim Civics were only available in 5-speeds until somewhat later than that car.
I wonder if it could be an EX? But I didn't think that came in a hatch. It did, however, have the "bigger" D16A6 and could have either an auto or a manual gearbox.

Nope it was an Si, we had them with automatics here. I believe we only had CX, DX, and Si for '88-'91, I don't think you folks had the CX, it was called a STD instead, but ours could come with either a 4 speed or a 5 speed manual. My '90 is a CX 5 speed, which I am pretty sure doesn't exist in the USA? The car I am currently driving is a '94 Si coupe with an automatic, which I also think doesn't exist in the states, all the online VIN decoders say it's an EX, but it isn't. When I had it for sale I even had some guy call me up and say even though he didn't want to buy it, that my car didn't exist and that I must be wrong about it being an Si lol. OK Mr. Expert, whatever you say!
Canadian 4th Gens 101 (I have no proof of this, but I think this is correct):
Civic 4 door sedans came in CX or DX, and I think that's it, both had the 1.5L
Civic hatchbacks came in CX, DX, or Si, with the Si only having the 1.6L
Civic Wagons came in DX or Si only, with Si being AWD with a 1.6L
CRX came in DX or Si only, with the Si getting the 1.6L
Any of the above were available with either automatic or manual transmission.

It could be misinformation so please don't quote me, but it's just from what I have seen over the years up here. But I know we didn't have CRX HFs in that generation, and I have never seen an EX Civic in 4th or 5th generation so I don't think we had those either. I think EX didn't exist here until '96, and then only as a 4 door? If anyone can correct me please do, but that sounds right to me. We also only had the VX for '92 and '93. I am guessing the 3rd gen Civics are different here too, as my '87 has a 1.3L with a 5 speed, which I think is not a US spec vehicle? I know you folks had 1.3s, but could you get one with a 5 speed south of the border? On the rare occasion I see a 3rd gen running around, it's usually a 1500S etc.
