I did a cost per mile or lifetime cost analysis for them as well as a few other tires, some lower in price. The Energy Saver came out ahead in most cases. I ruled out generic super cheap tires because I would not want to jeopardize my safety with such a tire.

Thank you for taking the time to review these tires. I'm tempted to try a set for my CRX build.

I put some LRR Kumho 13's on my VX civic 92 model. havent noticed any gains..but then again i like to drive 75mph in 4th gear (keep it over 2700rmp) in lean-burn with at least a window cracked a few inches for fresh air. I also have some F1 type side-mirrors cuz my oems became to shaky. minus splash guard..it just started getting scrapy lost a mount underneath.

Do they come in 185/75/R14? My 1995 Buick Century could use 3 more MPG!

The Michelin Defender is offered in 175/65R14, 175/70R14, 185/65R14, 185/70R14, 195/70R14, and P205/70R14

Anyone know anything about them? I am hoping it would be like the Energy Saver A/S, but now in the 14 in sizes. They even have a 13 inch size avialable for all the VX peolpe.

Unfortunately I doubt the Defender will be anywhere near as fuel efficient BUT they may last a really long time which would them very close in total cost per mile. There are two test reports coming out soon from TireRack.com and Consumer Reports so keep an eye out.

Until then, here is my new best tank on these tires. There was quite a bit of pulse & glide used on this tank. I can't post a pic from my iPad so:

Results: 71.7mpg over 702.5 miles

Here are the results on my downhill 48mile commute plus a bunch of pulse & glide for the remaining miles.

Results: 95.9mpg over 233 miles.

Would you recomened waiting for this report and seeing what new tires get the best gas mileage?

Do you know of the next most fuel efficient tire is that might be avialable in a 14 inch?

I supose I could switch to a 15 inch wheel. I have some 9.5 lb 15x7 enkei RPF1 I could toss on some 185/65 15 Michelin Energy Saver A/S. It would be a slight stretch, but would fit fine. Might actually help correct the size being a little too big too.

A very handy tire size visualizer. Tire size calculator It tells the dimensions, revolutions per mile/km and compares the speedometer difference between two sizes.

I'm on a trip in the mountains and can't check on size availability for my other LRR favorites. I'll check into it tomorrow when i get back.

Turbo,

You don't have many choices in that size so I would look into the Michelin Defender which will likely have the lowest cost/mile to run due to the $70 Michelin rebate and the 90,000mile tread wear warranty. I bet it would trail slightly behind the GY Fuel Max and the Bridgestone B381 but it should outperform them and last a lot longer. The B381 is old school, super expensive and doesn't last long which eats up the potential savings in fuel it has over the Defender or FuelMax tire.
