You're right... and THAT is why I need to use those terms. LOL Thank you.

Lol, I'm a math major (dual major with computer science) who works at a math help desk and tutors people in math. I'm paid to know that *****, and it'd probably be impossible for me to restrain from correcting someone LOL :P
Just remember that any standard angle (30, 45, 60, 90, etc.) will be some "nice" fraction of pi (pi/6, pi/4, pi/3, pi/2, corresponding to above). 1 rad, 2 rad, 4.5 rad, things like that, are all ugly angles with degree measurements that have many decimals behind them...
Good luck in your trig and calc endeavors, it's cool to go into it with a good physical understanding of stuff like engines. it make it all makes alot more sense.

I'm studying it 'dry'. I went as far as A2 in high school with no real further interest beyond binary and ASCII [less to do with math], but regained interest in complex calculation when i got interested in Science [of all things] specifically Physics and more precisely Theoretical Physics. It's nice to be able to look at some of the complex equations and not have to look up exactly what they entail by reducing it to common arabic.

I was trying to figure out if it was a Metro or Festiva -- by the way, great example of using a small car for what most would consider "truck work"
Correction: I haven't moved and merged threads for a couple of years, so here we we have it. The thread was re-started inadvertently, so I merged the thread starter with the chronological response, directed from the WAI Thread.
Hopefully it helps more than hurts!

It works, RH. Thanks for the help.
13B - I missed a post and will answer it now -
Dynamic compression: I don't recall the formula for it, but it's something like you said. The idea is that less charge volume into a cylinder lowers the cylinder pressure at TDC, so the dynamic compression figure is based in part on VE compared to Static compression ratio.
Since the density of the charge changes with temperature, and thus will affect pressure at TDC, the dynamic figure is also affected by engine temperature and factors such as charge heat soak, blow-by [gasket and ring leaks, sticky valves, etc] and others.
I'm not sure why it's called Dynamic compression, I think there could be a better name for it, but that's always how it's been referred to every time I discuss engines with someone and it gets brought up.
The effect of dynamic compression is why people have been able to successfully run extremely high compression ratios with boost on pump gas without destroying their engines, to some extent. There are still limits.
