Looks about right to me. Although personally, if I was going to go through the trouble of putting a new motor in, I'd have an engine rebuilder give it a 100K treatment before I through it in there. That's what I had to do a few years back.

Back on topic:

Awesome oil analysis. I need to get mine done soon. My last one didn't look so hot but I had gone 10K on the oil.

Changing the oil every 3K is indeed over the top for a 2002 engine, especially with good synthetic oil.
It's a big engine, but 1 quart of oil added within only 3K miles and 3.5 within 10K is a lot.
How much oil is in the engine ?

Do you replace the car as often as your oil?

Agreed. 1 quart every 3k seems excessive unless it's being driven hard into high RPMs. However, I bought a Subaru Legacy with 119,000 miles on it, and it used a quart every 2k. I put another 100k on the engine and it continued to use oil at this rate the entire time. My MPGs actually improved over the entire life of the car, likely due to small modifications in my driving habits. The car was running strong when I parted ways after someone bought it by way of rear-ending me.

Nope. I have 255 grand on the clock.

I'm easy on my machinery. I have a 1976 riding lawn mower.

For vehicles I always Ziebart them.

Do you do a lot of highway miles? Highway miles are easy miles.

Without TBN testing though, it's difficult to say if you could or couldn't extend your oil change. Sure, wear is good, silicon (dirt) was decent, but without TBN we have no idea how much more acid the oil can neutralize. This oil could be near the end of it's life and did a great job, or it could have done a great job and be ready for more. However, something tells me this oil has plenty of life left in it.

What is the factory recommended oil change interval anyways? 5k? 7500?

You can really extend your OCI a lot with a bypass filter. But Dave, do you have an analysis report showing 75k OCI? I'm really curious.

There's some theory that when you need to fill up oil from time to time, there's no real need to change the oil.
Some people are actually putting that theory into praxis.
And they're apparently getting away with it.

Bypass filters and oil cleaning systems for installation in vehicles are commercially available that remove the contaminations from the oil.
