Route planning is a big part of hypermiling.

There was a cluster of black holes near Kessel. The normal smuggling route steered well clear of it and was 18 parsecs long. If you've got the speed, you can fly closer to the black holes- and the Falcon was fast enough to make that route in under 12.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

In the cosmos time and distance can be interchanged by multiplying/dividing by the speed of light.
A parsec is about 3.26 light years, so 5 parsecs would be 16.3 (light)years? A 16 year old car isn't 'vintage' yet, is it?

Yes, but that was not in the script: "You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon?…It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs."

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.
