Perhaps we shuld open a specific thread for the boost converter?
Paul have you still got that PCB layout for the gate driver IC, showned a couple posts behind?
The issue I'm having is the compromise between using a single big IGBT with a huge inductor at 20Khz or so or going SIC mosfet's at a few hundred Khz, perhaps interleaved, with much smaller size/higher efficiency. I havent been able to find such a thing as a 200A mosfet in a brick package, rated for 600V.
Not to forget I plan to use the same setup for a high power vehicle charger, which complicates things (EMI/Harmonic compliances). I'm wondering how none of you guys ever mentioned the charger, how do you people charge!??

Sounds like a plan. I'm interested in a boost converter for several projects.

I read about IGBTs from someone ... around January of this year .. GaS? 100 KHz, 1200V. Something like that. It looked very interesting - the inductors were so much smaller that the extra cost was *ALMOST* a wash. They were actually for sale, not just sampling, so I had missed the sample announcement somehow.

I bought a charger .. and I don't have my EV running as yet - since I blew up the Netgain Industrial Controller

Great! thanks for starting that thread.
Didn't someone here suggest using a controller that could handle 4 pairs of switches, using the two extra for the boost converter?
I like that from the integrated design perspective - also it may be easier for the motor controller functions to interact with the boost controller functions in order to obtain an optimum operating point.
Thoughts, Paul? Or would this make the motor controller function much more difficult?

Hello, sorry i have been working in oregon for the last few weeks and havent been on the internet much at all. Im doing a charger right now that is almost identical to a 3 phase controller, that does a full bridge output with a boost input yhat is for power factor correction. I'll be back home in a couple more weeks and will get back to helping thingstodo. My wife was recently diagnosed with MS and I've been pretty busy with helping with the kids and stuff, but a major diet change has been helping her, and she is getting some mobility back.

I'm sorry to hear about her illness. I'll keep her in mind during my prayers.

I'm sorry to hear that, Paul.
I'll e-mail some of the information I have about it; we have a friend who's been able to get her ms into remission. She works as a nurse and does long bike rides (100miles) and hikes for fun. There's hope.
Take care,

Sorry to hear that -- Google Moducare and MS - see if that makes sense and helps.
