Please help with Geo Metro 93 hook up!

I have wired the vss to the yellow green wire next to the computer under the dash and the yellow black inj wire under the air cleaner in the engine. I have the ground and constant hot all wired up. The unit turns on just fine. the vss is no getting a reading for some reason. Is there a setting on the mpguino that i'm missing? It does not read any MPG or speed. I also have check engine light warning after hooking this up. I'm getting 12v from the hot on my meter and the ground is fine. what reading should i be getting on the inj and vss on hot and durring engine off? also when I move the wire connection just a little, my engine shuts off. I'm wondering if the fuel injector is touching the hot at the plug since the wires are so close. I am getting 12V off of the injector at the plug. Any suggestion on how to get this thing working?

Thanks,
Jim

moving wires should not shut anything off, you have to double check your wiring and make sure everything is insulated (tape or silicone).

you should see about .4gph if the injector is hooked up correctly.

Can you draw a picture of how you hooked things up?

I bought an assembled MPGUINO from you this week actually. I followed the directions online here and am wondering if the connector wires are touching since they sit so close together. but i even put liquid tape around the ends of each connector before i hooked everything up, then i tapped the wires close together with elect tape. I will remove the elect tape this morning. I was hoping that was just ghost voltage on the inj. what reading should i be getting on the vss hot or cold? I followed the directions for your 98 metro hook up. my hanes manual elect diagram says that the vss is the yellow green that i hooked up. Just not sure what to do at this point.

what is touching? Why would the car die if you move a wire?!? I can't see what you are seeing here.

GPH is about .48 - .50 and increases when i push the gas. So that must be working properly

I'm guessing that the car dies because the wires may be touching somewhere where they enter the connector prongs at the base. even though I insulated them it mayhave found a pin hole and could be shorting out against the injector or something. I still don't understand why the vss isn't reading.

Also understand that you did not "BUY" it from me, you made a donation. The number of hours that I've put in measured at the per unit level makes this a gift. If I were selling them it would be much more expensive, and you would have to go through someone else to talk to me

What in the wiring might be shorting out when you move it? The wiring is your department. Did you put the pins in the connector block on the mpguino end? I'm at a loss here.

I didn't intend to sound upset. In fact I am greatfull for your help. And your initiative in this project. I was just trying to give a foundation to the wiring you are asking for on my behalf. I hope I didn't come off as negative. The wiring is to spec on the diagram and pictures that you provide through this site. I am mirroring your wiring. Is there any steps of troubleshooting I can follow to get a vss read?

I used this photograph and layout as a guideline for my wiring. http://opengauge.org/mpguino/ I understand that It is shorting out because of my end on the wiring. I intend to go over that and correct it shortly. It only happens when I compress the wires near the base of the connector. I guess I'm now looking for vss guidance and any program settings that are of great importance that I may have missed somewhere along the way. Sorry for being so convoluted in my approach.

the gph reading sounds good, the engine dying needs to solidify the injector wiring junction (best guess), or redo that junction.

the vss, dunno, can you stick a pin in the wire next to the junction and check continuity to the guino plug?

I assume you are "T"ing into these signals.
