Thyme old bean, you seem to have missed the point of the original question. Please keep up and stop 'having a go' at people. You'll find the debate is much more meaningful

To make renewables the main source of energy, a world wide electrical grid and efficiency is needed. There is always wind or sun somewhere. Hydro can be a 24 hour a day source, although hydro is not particularly environmentally friendly.

Arragonis old bean, I thought the original question was to see whether people would want a nuclear plant in their vicinity. If you think it's something other than that or that there is some deeper, hidden meaning in it please enlighten me.

When did I "have a go" at anyone? Any comment or observation I make is based upon what others have said. It is unfortunate if you are disturbed by it.

BTW, where there is no disagreement, there is no debate.

I thought that was Denmark? In any case, it's an illusion. There is no German (or Danish) energy grid, there's a single European grid.

So Germany or Denmark or wherever can claim to run on renewables, because there's French nuclear and Swiss hydro to pick up the slack.

Not reclusiveness, but a belief that cities are not fit places for people to live. To me, they're the human equivalent of cattle feedlots & battery chicken farms.

I understand. A state of reclusion is that of being marked by withdrawal from society (which essentially is what you are describing). Opting out or avoidance of it is a form of it.

I mentioned it not to be disparaging, but rather as a fitting description.

On a European scale: The European Union has promised to get 20% of its energy from renewables by 2020. Though at the current rate it'll be closer to 10%. Coal powered countries like Poland aren't helping

BTW, I found who has been spreading the rumor about nuclear being 'renewable':

Never in the past has mankind lived in such huge societies and complex social structures as what we see today in our megacities.
So opting out of these massive societies isn't exactly unnatural behaviour.

Cities are only something of the last 6.000 years or thereabout.
Only a blink of an eye in history.

A friend of mine once said that humanity is socially immature, meaning that civilization and technology have run away at the speed of light, but our DNA has hardly changed in the last 10.000 years. Genetically, we are cavemen who have iPods and nuclear warheads. We have toys and tools that our great grandparents couldn't have even dreamed about, but we are still too dumb to use them in a safe and responsible way.
