Thanks for the line drawing, LTD. I agree about the greenhouse taper - looks near the ideal teardrop in both vertical and horizontal dimensions. I vote that Porsche knew what they were doing.

They should reverse the side view mirrors!
I voted for backwards...

Although they appear to be angled back slightly I am not so sure if reversing the mirrors would change much since they are the old school "flag" style and just about flat on both sides. What might have affected air flow would be turning them as you said then mounting them as if the body was actually designed to go "backwards." Lets say... Over the door handles. Unless that's what you were thinking in the first place.. LOL

My vote is forward. The biggest factors are those down wind, school bus-sized flag mirrors. If they used the 928 S4 with its huge wing spoiler, it's a no brainer.
By the way, for Porsche purists, they are finally happy with the 'correct' engine placement!

They are using the model without a spoiler:

I suspect that no matter which way its going there will be very little deferance, however I voted for giong backwards would be better.

For those who did not read the article here is what they said regarding the aero:
Porsche 928 enthusiasts have long questioned whether its design caused enough aerodynamic problems to affect the performance relative to other sports cars. The first 928s suffered from a large frontal area for a sports tourer, and a strangely angled tail that did little to manage the air flowing around the vehicle. At 75 mph, the original 1978 928 was losing 28 hp to drag, a noticeable deficit given its 219-hp engine.
Two years after launch, Porsche added front and rear spoilers to better manage aerodynamics; later models included longer rear sections that improved air flow along with upgraded engines that had more grunt to overcome such losses, topping out at 345 hp by the time production ended in 1995.

Some claimed that the rounded rear of the 928 increased turbulence that was detrimental to it's top speed.
Some guy in Europe fitted a widened VW Rabbit body (known as Golf series 1 outside the US) on the chassis/ lower part and mechanicals of a 928, and found that it had a higher top speed than a 928. It was tested and confirmed by a German magazine...
Surprising, considering the squareish shape of the Rabbit/Golf 1 car.

One thing to consider in that comparison is the Rabbit/Golf probably has a smaller frontal area, so a direct apples:apples is tough to do.
