How far can you go

Interesting site. I went 50. But it looks like the norm is about 25-30 miles.

My light comes on with 3½ gallons to spare, at 25.7 MPG easy highway speeds that's 90 miles and makes for a common complaint among owners that it comes on so soon.

Mine comes on and off, and I believe that my fuel gauge is inaccurate. It goes really slow to get to half full tank, then after that it drops like a rock. $20 at gas light takes it to half, but $40 doesn't even take it to 3/4... hmmm :/ The average is about 30 miles. but I've definitely gone about 60 with it on. And my gas gauge goes up when the front of the vehicle is lower than the back, and the down when the back is lower than the front. like on a hill.

SAME HERE!

My gas gauge goes up when i turn a hard left on the freeway ramp or when my car is resting with the right half higher than the left (weird huh?)

I've taken my skuttlebutt about 80 miles (give or take) on fumes once.

Fuel Lights are purposely set high to keep fuel in the tank for your pump.
Remember the fuel in your tank is the pump lubricant and coolant.
Your engine will not run long without either and the same goes for the pump.
While working at the corner gas station I replaced more pumps on cars that ran mostly on fumes than on the cars that were usually at least 1/2 full.
These were the people who also seemed to complain the most about the cost of repairs.

I noticed the same thing on my Toyota Tacoma..
At a half a tank, my trip meter is at 200 miles which would make me believe I could pull 400 miles to the tank.. I'm hardly getting past 300 when the gas light goes on..

I wonder if when its time for a fuel pump replacment theres a way to adjust it so its more realistic..

Mite be a ploy for when you test drive a vehicle and the test drivers go,
"Wow, the gas guage hasn't moved a bit"

At half, I can sometimes hit the near 300 mark, mostly at around 250-275 at half, Which makes be believe if I try hard enough I can get to 600.... nope, drops like a rock and the fuel light comes on at aproxx 3-4 gallons left (according to the gas pump, I usually fill up when the light comes on, never gotten to the E line yet) , so I'm around 420+ at fuel light, using 19 gallons with about 430 miles is common.

Yea, that's it, that way they think they're getting great mileage even when their flooring it. But nah, it's just an illusion.

After replacing the gas tank on my Dodge Shadow, I could plainly see that the fuel pump is all the way to the left of the tank. (Did you see my Rant?)

I once "ran out of gas" with a quarter tank left because I had pulled over to the side of the road which had very steep shoulders.

I now have my fuel sender unit permanently closed off with a Mountain Dew can.

My Fuel gauge is always buried below empty and there is no low gas light.

I have been figuring fuel left by using my trip odometer for about the last 6 years now.
