Had the same thought, once it turned on though it'd run for 5 hours.

perhaps you did not have the size of the pulse ventilation orifices calibrated appropriately *stabs cardboard box with a pencil*

Why not call it "pulse and freeze"?

Had to re-adjust the t'stat swing last night, wife was complaining it was too hot. It got to 62 and hadn't shut off yet when set at 60 so turned swing back down to 2 for about a 1 degree swing each way.

-16F last night; high of 6. Furnace off 19 hours; dropped to 40 inside. First pulse was nearly an hour; second was about 20 minutes- about 20 min is the normal pulse length in these conditions so I'm thinking the "catch-up" phase is done after the first two pulses.

I had this setup when I worked midnights with my programable stat. I think i had it set to something like 60 durning the day (when I'm home) and 40 at night. It was never super cold really, so when I got home it was high 40s to 50s. Down side to my situation, trailer houses suck, and you can feel the wind blow though. I have to fix that some time when it is warm.
I did have my pipes freeze with the freeze and thaw method due to someone being stupid when they setup the water lines right next to the skirting.

Surprisingly my wife beat me to it. She has been doing it for over a month apparently of turning it down to 60 when we're not home and then turning it back up to 65 when we are home. I apparently didn't notice the change.

We turn it off any time we leave. Usually stays above 50f if we come back the same day.

For the same reason we don't call it "pulse and stop" when we're driving.
